Biography
An experienced professional with more than 15 years’ experience in cybersecurity, Mohannad have participated in large programs to develop cybersecurity capabilities for many entities in the Kingdom and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, such as establishing the first global center for managed cyber security services in the region. Mohannad is a regular speaker on cybersecurity and ICT-related conferences in addition to his membership on the advisory board at the Information Security Conference in the Middle East and North Africa. His latest achievements is establishing Cyber-X (non-profit) project that aims to raise awareness among individuals and organizations in the field of cyber security by developing different multimedia and interactive products, as well as focusing on trending topics in cyber security.

Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly common for organizations to set up Security Operations Centres (SOCs) to centralize their information security operations. The aim is to create an effective, highly focused resource for both detecting and responding to threats. But while it seems like a good idea and can result in impressive capabilities, the actual improvements in security can be more modest than expected. When it comes to building security operations, there are a thousand directions one can go, and with every choice comes risk. The security landscape changes, seemingly minute by minute, and the need for ensuring that consistent, reliable security operations are properly configured, staffed, and trained becomes more important with every passing event. This talk delivered by CyberX is touching upon SOCs myths, maturity, and effectiveness.
